Optometry Course Details

Bsc Optometry is a three-year course consisting of six semesters. Few colleges and universities have a one-year internship. The course includes a detailed study of the eye's anatomy, physiology, optometry, studying all machines in an eye health evaluation(repair and maintenance), medical work ethics and computer skills. You need at least a 10+2 education from a recognized university/ board with science and math subjects. You also need to have a good score in the entrance exam for BSc. Optometry if your choice of college conducts one.

Optometry Course Duration

The BSc. Optometry course is a three-year graduate course usually divided into six semesters of six months each. In addition, some colleges have an internship of six months to 1 year for clinical experience and practice after completing three years of study.

Admissions in BSc. Optometry Course

  • Bsc. Optometry entrance exam dates and admission forms(cost 1000-2500/-) for exams like AIIMS and NEET are usually announced in March – April.

BSc. Optometry Course Eligibility Criteria

To do BSc Optometry you require:

  • Minimum aggregate of 50% marks at the 10+2 level. Most colleges offer admission on a merit basis of a percentage of 10+2 level. 
  • Some colleges take entrance exams for BSc Optometry.
  • Students taking admission should be at least 17 years of age on 1st November of that particular year. There is no maximum age limit to take admission to this course.
