NCAHP’s Eligibility Update for Allied & Healthcare Programs in 2026–27
Allied and healthcare aspirants recently faced confusion over whether NEET would be required for programs such as Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy.
A new update from the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) clarifies what will happen next. Here’s what you need to know.
NEET will become mandatory for two allied and healthcare programs:
- Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT)
- Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT)
However, this rule will not apply immediately.
The requirement has been deferred to the academic year 2027–28.
This means students applying for 2026–27 admissions in these two programs do NOT need NEET.
Admissions for this year will continue to be based on Class 12 marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) and as per the regulations set by NCAHP.
Why Do These Changes Matter?
India’s healthcare system depends heavily on allied and healthcare professionals: physiotherapists, lab technologists, radiology technicians, optometrists, and many others.
By standardising eligibility and admission pathways, regulators are trying to bring more structure and quality to allied and healthcare education.
For students, this means clearer rules and better recognition of these careers in the years ahead
Important Updates from the Sector
12th with Science Mandatory for Allied & Healthcare Programs
There is another key update for students planning careers in allied and healthcare.
NCAHP has made 10+2 with Science background (PCM/PCB) the basic eligibility requirement for many allied and healthcare programs.
Earlier, some programs allowed students to enroll after Class 10 or without a science stream, especially in diploma-level programs. This move aims to ensure students entering these programs have the right academic foundation for healthcare training.
